Zanskar Valley – 21 Nights & 22 Days

A place like no other in the world- the Zanskar valley is a superlative experience in itself. Trekking over the Shingola pass which is located 16700 feet above sea level into a valley which has no firewood, sparse population and a stark landscape is a visually impactful experience like few others.

Inaccessible for half the year, the Zanskar Valley is accessible on foot from Darcha Himachal or from Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir. A Buddhist dominated region, the valley is conspicuous for the friendly welcome which is afforded to every visitor by the local people. An ancient monastery in the cave called Phogthar shelters 200 monks who live here throughout the year. Padum, which means Lotus is a splendid and extremely Buddhist Circuit picturesque place for trekking.

Pin Parwati – 10 Nights & 11 Days

Sir Louis Dane first discovered this high pass in 1884 as entry point to Spiti from Kullu. It is a very difficult pass because it lies very high and remains under heavy snow and it involves very long journey beyond habitation. This pass links Parvati valley in Kullu with Pin valley of Spiti. This is one of the most important pass in Himachal.

Manikaran (1700 m) at a distance about 45 km from kullu via Bhunter (motorable) is the first destination on this trail. Manikaran is famous for its hot water springs, Ramchandrajis temple and Gurudwara. Thousands of pilgrims have their dip in the hot water. It is believed to be radioactive and good for such diseases as rheumatism, gout, bronchitis, pheumonia and muscular pains. The water gushes with tremendous force is so hot, even rice, dall or vegetables can be boiled. Legend has that the Goddess Parvationce bathed here in the river with her consort Mahadeva. She laid her ear-rings upon the bank and Naga, the serpent god, stole them to his home beneath the earth.

Mahadeva was very angry and threatened Naga. The Naga snorted with rage, blowing the jewels out of his nostrils with such force that they flew through the earth to Parvati again. And from the holes they made, the springs have bubbled ever since. Shiva and Parvati spent eleven years here.  Guru Nanak Devji, the first guru of the Sikhs also visited this place.
